Discovery Bible Study: Learning to Read the Bible for Yourself

At Harvest Homes, no one has to be an expert to open the Bible and understand it. We use a simple approach called Discovery Bible Study, and it is changing how people read Scripture.

What is Discovery Bible Study?

Discovery Bible Study (DBS) is a simple way for a small group to read a passage together and discover what God is saying. Instead of one person teaching while everyone else listens, the group works through the text together. Someone reads the passage aloud. Others retell it in their own words. Then we talk about a few questions:

  • What does this passage say about God?

  • What does it say about people?

  • What is God asking me to obey?

  • Who can I share this with?

Why we use it in Harvest Homes

Our goal is not just people who know about the Bible. We want people who can open it on their own, understand it, and obey it. When a group discovers a truth for themselves, it sticks. The Bible becomes less like a book they hear about on Sunday and more like a voice they hear every day.

DBS also keeps the focus where it belongs: on the text, not on the personality of the leader.

Training leaders along the way

Because the format is simple and repeatable, anyone can learn to lead it. People who start as participants soon take a turn guiding the group. Over time, they begin to start new groups of their own. That is how Harvest Homes raises up future leaders: not through a classroom, but by letting people practice what they are learning.

Come and see

You don't need Bible knowledge or a leadership background. You only need a willingness to read, listen, and obey. Find a Harvest Home near you and join us as we discover God's Word together.
